A full day or two days discovering the city starting from the 'Artfusions.it' apartment. If you want to experience the true soul of Palermo, this itinerary is for you. Starting directly from our apartment in Via Mongitore 15<\/strong>, you\u2019ll spend a whole day exploring UNESCO World Heritage sites, historic markets, churches, stately homes, old neighbourhoods and the city\u2019s seafront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The route is about 10 kilometres long and takes a whole day to complete, but it won't be particularly challenging. Wear comfortable shoes, take a bottle of water with you, and enjoy the city's diversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Start your tour from Artfusions.it Apartment<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The day begins right at the \u201cArtfusions.it\u201d holiday apartment. If you prefer public transport, there is a free shuttle bus that will take you on a free tour of the historic centre. The shuttle bus passes right by the stop on Via Cadorna, the street that crosses Via Mongitore, and takes you to the Royal Palace or the Norman Palace. From there, several buses run, including the City Sightseeing Bus<\/a> (which also goes as far as Monreale). In any case, you can reach all the places I recommend visiting \u2013 as shown on the interactive map \u2013 without needing to use public transport. It is up to you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019d advice you not to wear jewellery and to always keep an eye on your wallet or handbag. Palermo is a safe city, but don\u2019t be too complacent, especially in the markets. Also: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Make sure you also carry some cash that you can easily take out of a bum bag or hidden pocket without having to take out your wallet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Credit and debit cards are always accepted; it is now rare to find shops that do not accept them, but you may need cash at markets, souvenir shops, on public transport or when visiting churches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. In touristy trattorias and bistros, always ask the price of the dishes you order if they are not clearly marked, and check your receipt before paying. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. In seafood restaurants, it\u2019s best to order a fillet or a slice of fish rather than fish sold by the kilo, to avoid any nasty surprises on your bill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. To buy tickets for public transport: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Treni Italia <\/a>xto buy train tickets. The Palazzo Reale train and metro station is a 5-minute walk away. You can reach many destinations from there like: Mondello (stop at Tommaso Natale), Isola delle Femmine, Cefal\u00fa and many other destinations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PalerMobilita <\/a> to buy bus and tram tickets. Here<\/a> you\u2019ll find all the information on timetables and routes. When it comes to car parking, I personally prefer the App EasyPark<\/a> because it is accepted throughout Italy and you can adjust the parking time as required or interrupt the timer earlier than you had set it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stop 1: San Giovanni degli Eremiti<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

La prima tappa \u00e8 uno dei monumenti pi\u00f9 affascinanti della Palermo arabo-normanna. Le caratteristiche cupole rosse e il magnifico chiostro rendono San Giovanni degli Eremiti uno dei luoghi pi\u00f9 fotografati della citt\u00e0. Qui il silenzio e il verde del giardino creano un’atmosfera unica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. The Norman Palace or Royal Palace<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

As you leave **San Giovanni degli Eremiti**, turn left and follow the pedestrian lane. At the end, turn right and continue along the narrow street until you see the staircase leading up to the **Royal Palace** on your left. Alternatively, continue uphill and then turn left. Follow the sidewalk, and you will find the **Royal Palace** on your left. Directly ahead of you, slightly to your left, is the ticket office.\n\nI recommend purchasing your tickets online to avoid the long initial queue at the ticket office. This is one of the oldest royal residences in Europe still in use today, as it is the seat of the **Sicilian Regional Assembly**\u2014so it's definitely not to be missed! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside is the extraordinary Palatine Chapel, considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Byzantine, Norman and Arab art. The French writer Guy de Maupassant<\/strong>, on visiting the chapel in 1885, described it as follows: \u2018The most beautiful church in the world, the most astonishing religious jewel ever conceived by the human mind\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make sure you allow plenty of time to visit this truly unique place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. The Cathedral of Palermo<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Continuando lungo Corso Vittorio Emanuele II arriverete nel cuore esatto della citt\u00e0.
